Sanlam braces for South Africa’s fifth Covid-19 wave

Sanlam is propping up its capital reserves as its braces for a fifth wave of Covid-19 infections. Sanlam said it will hold three times its typical discretionary capital, increasing reserves to R3 billion, to give itself some headroom to cope with uncertainties caused by the pandemic. South Africa is currently recovering from the Omicron-driven fourth wave in December 2021, but Sanlam expects a new wave toward the middle of 2022.
