Standard Bank and Old Mutual have dropped their Covid-19 mandatory vaccination and testing policies for all workers, claiming the policies are no longer required because more than 90% of their workforce has already been vaccinated. However, these companies have been threatened with legal action by trade unions, for dismissing workers who refused to get vaccinated. Standard Bank has dismissed at least 40 staff, while Old Mutual has dismissed an estimated 89 employees. The trade union Sasbo said it is focused on getting other companies to repeal their vaccination mandates. This includes Sanlam, Momentum Metropolitan, Discovery and others that implemented vaccine mandates earlier this year.
