According to its latest Claims Statistics Report, Old Mutual has paid out R21,2 billion in claims in 2021. The pay-outs include underwritten, non-underwritten and corporate claims and represent a year-on-year increase of 51%. The report revealed an increase in Life cover and Disability Income claims, compared to the previous year. Disability Lump Sum claims decreased, as well as Retrenchment claims. The report also revealed that the top three Psychiatric disorder claims were for major depression (51%), anxiety (19%) and post-traumatic stress disorder (17%). However, these are lower than the previous year.
